A thank you dinner in our honor

Some of us were able to venture to Ava for a thank you dinner being thrown in our honor.  After so many fire departments joined together to battle the blaze on N Hwy, someone thought it would be nice to serve us a warm meal as a thank you.  It was greatly appreciated by all.

Unfortunately, many could not attend due to the flooding that was taking place, so they are hoping to throw a picnic when it warms up.

Flooding hits the area 4-5-2025

Sorry to be late getting this added but rain and power outages affects my ability to upload things at times.  If you visit our Facebook page you can view some flooding in our area.  Some people are trapped in their residence but safe and many of us cannot reach the firehouse due to flooding.

One thing on our wish list is a place to store trucks and supplies on this side of the creek as well.  This bridge floods much too often and cuts us off.

March 31, 2025

After a super busy month of fighting fires, I would like to say thank you to everyone in our fire district.  This past week has actually been somewhat relaxing and that is to our residents observing the burn ban.  THANK YOU!!!

This allowed our photographer, David A Vaughn, Jr., to take picture of nature instead of fire.

Firefighter Cody Smyth has had surgery to release constriction of movement in the neck due to scar tissue from burns sustained as a child.  Our prayers are with him as recovery may take months.  Cody's story can be found on Ozark County Times |

Rain is in the forecast and possibly an end to fire ban.

Skidder Catches Fire March 25, 2025

Monday turned into an adventure as we put out the fire out on a skidder.  With the aid of EDCVFD we were able to extinguish the blaze before the woods caught fire.  Time was against us as cell service is sketchy at best in that area.  Fortunately, no person was injured but the skidder is no more.

Wednesday the 19th of March

We won't say much here as we have created an entire page to the fire yesterday that destroyed nearly 1300 acres.

For four days, this blaze on N Hwy, has been burning.  Squires Volunteer Fire Department we hope you can get some much-needed rest.  Thank you, for allowing us to be part of this group effort, by so many.

Re-cap of Board Meeting

Tonight, former State Represitative, Travis Smith, paid our small fire department a visit.  Travis dropped off a state flag and an American flag that flew over the capital in Jefferson City, for our auction in April.  Travis also brought an extra surprise.  His brother-in-law's fire department in Illinois gave us several of their old radios.  No, they are not digital, but they are definitely needed.  Travis thank you for all you do for our community.

Ron & Sandra Bellinger, two of the original founders of our fire department, were also in attendance.  We only hope we can continue to make them proud.

Congratulations to Ms. Venessa Watkins, for winning the massage.  Body in Balance is a wonderful place to get a massage.

Fire ravishes more than 130 acres

On March 11th we responded to a fire in the Rockbridge area.  We had to call on mutual aid and would like to thank Squires, Good Hope, Wasola, and Missouri Conservation for all the help they provided.  We would also like to thank Eastern Douglas for responding to an addition fire in our area while we battled this blaze.

Unfortunately, structures were lost and damage as well as about 130 acres of beautiful forest land.  Fortunately, no loss of life and injuries for firefighters were minor and were treated on site.

A huge thanks Rockbridge for donating snacks and water for the crews battling the blaze.  Crews were on scene for nearly 9 hours.   Rainbow Trout Fishing | Rainbow Trout & Game Ranch | Rockbridge, MO

Careless Smoker

On March 8th we unfortunately had to respond to a fire that could have easily been prevented.  Please, dispose of your cigarettes in an ashtray or cup of water.  Do not flick it out the window.

Brush fire gets out of control

It is imperative that we take proper precautions when doing a burn.  Mow all weeds around area to be burned.  Make a fire break.  Have a plentiful source of water.  Personally, I get the hose from the well house hooked up and line buckets of water around my burn and watch it while holding a rake.

On March 7th our firefighters battled a fire where it got out of control due to high winds.

WE CAN HELP

The fire chief wants you to know that if you need an assist with a controlled burn, WE CAN HELP.  Before your burn contact us and we will plan a low wind day to bring the crew to where you want to burn.  Two conditions, it has to be a low wind day, and it has to be your property.

Be fire prepared. If you have tall grass, tree slash, and other flammable materials near your residence and/or other buildings, please be aware that you make your property nearly impossible to defend. We offer free property evaluations for anyone in our coverage area who would like tips on how to make their properties safer from fire.
